SHOOTING CONTINUES: HARUM SCARUM - FRANKY AND JOHNNY
On January 8, 1965, Elvis celebrates his 30th birthday. Elvis continues his film career full time. He hardly ever makes any recordings for albums that are unrelated to his movies.
On March 9, 1965, Elvis recorded the soundtrack and began filming his 19th film, "Harum Scarum", co-starring Mary Ann Mobley.
"Girl Happy" makes its premiere on April 7, 1965 becoming the #25 highest grossing film of the year. The soundtrack ranks #8, while the single "Crying in the Chapel" salvaged from the album sessions His Hand In Mine from 1960 surprisingly reaches #3 on the Billboard charts. What was initially a song intended for the Easter season, it became a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, returning Elvis to the charts.
The movie "Harum Scarum" officially opens on April 19, 1965. Elvis begins in May the recording of the soundtrack and filming of "Frankie and Johnny", co-starring Donna Douglas.
On May 9, 1965, Colonel Parker has organized a radio special to commemorate Mother's Day that will be broadcast on radio stations throughout the country.
