 People can stay at home and listen to your records on a record player or on the radio and it doesn't cost them a dime. 

But when they pay money to see you in a personal appearance, those people want to see a show, they pay to see something that is alive, not just hear something on a record player.

 If I stood in front of the public and only sang, I would be holding myself back, I wouldn't have a good time, I wouldn't have fun.

 And the audience would take notice. 

They would know I'm not having a good time, and next time they wouldn't come to see me."
