BAFTA Awards 2023: Austin Butler wins 'Best Lead Actor' for "Elvis"
By Jack Whatley
It's going to be one of the most special nights of his career, and now Austin Butler can celebrate properly after taking home the BAFTA award for his starring role in "Elvis."
The fight for the 'Best Lead Actor' was hotly contested this year.
However, with star turns from some of the industry's brightest stars including Colin Farrell, Brendan Fraser for his role in "The Whale," Paul Mescal's star turn in "Aftersun and Bill Nighy," it was Butler who took the prize.
The star took the time to not only thank his family, Baz Luhrmann, but also "the Presley family" during his speech, where he also hoped he had made the family proud.
During a conversation on the Graham Norton Show, Butler discussed Elvis's accent and the shock of performing so many musical numbers.
"...he sang everything," he said, "...I think I've probably destroyed my voice a bit, you know, my vocal cords, it's a lot rastier now."
Having already picked up the 'Best Actor' award at the Golden Globes, Butler has now added a BAFTA to his collection with his eyes set on the Oscars in the coming weeks.
